Is camouflage optical illusion ?

I remember me taking optical illusion in my masters assignment and scoring very low. reason being camouflage a natural phenomenon and not an optical illusion.. I am still not satisfied people say its not an optical illusion. misinterpretation of the sensory input from the sensory organs is optical illusion. Nature uses this phenomenon in the form of camouflage and creates species through the concept of evolution. But why is this concept not considered an optical illusion.

scientific reasons plz

  1. I think an optical illusion is something that looks like it has different physical properties than it in fact does when measured (e.g. looks longer or darker than it in fact is). Camouflage doesn't fool the eye in this way, it makes the animal look like it's part of the background.
